I learned that my favorite elements are Gold Silver and Platinum. The element for gold is Au. The element for silver is Ag. And the element for Platinum is Pt. Gold is mainly used for jewlery. This is one reason, 24-carat is pure gold, but it is very soft. 18- and 9-carat gold alloys are commonly used because they are more durable. Silver is the most common used jewelry and is used alot. For Ex. Sterling silver contains 92.5% silver. The rest is copper or some other metal. It is used for jewellery and silver tableware, where appearance is important of many jewelry. Silver is actually more common than gold. But gold is actually very rare. Platinum is a chemical element. It is similar to gold and silver being used for jewlery but can also be used by cars and trucks. Platinum is used extensively for jewellery. Its main use, however, is in catalytic converters for cars, trucks and buses. This accounts for about 50% of demand each year. Platinum is very effective at converting emissions from the vehicle’s engine into less harmful waste products. Platinum is used in the chemicals industry as a catalyst for the production of nitric acid, silicone and benzene. It is also used as a catalyst to improve the efficiency of fuel cells.
